Title: The 21cm HI Emission and Absorption as a Measure of the Interstellar Medium
Abstract: I present synthetic observations of the converging HI flows which incorporate the formation of molecular hydrogen and cooling/heating in magnetohydrodynamical turbulent states (Inoue and Inutsuka 2012). These observations allow us to gain an insight into the detailed physical/chemical states of the interstellar hydrogen gas over a large density range from 1 to 104 cm-3 and the observed properties of the 21 cm HI transition. The results indicate the HI line is generally optically thick and show the observed properties of the CNM and WNM. I also discuss the observational signatures of the HI-H2 transition.
